Since 1995, the team has been coached by Tom Izzo, who has an overall record of 707–295 (Through the 2023-2024 season) as the head coach at Michigan State. Izzo coached the Spartans to their second national championship in 2000 with an 89–76 victory over Florida. Izzo has turned Michigan State into a perennial basketball powerhouse.
