Mary P. Hamlin (born Mary Ida Parmele; [1] September 30, 1871 [a] – June 26, 1964 [4]) was an American playwright specializing in religious dramas, but best known for the 1917 Broadway play, Hamilton (co-authored with its star, George Arliss), and for its 1931 screen adaptation, Alexander Hamilton.
Mary Lee Clark was born in Naples, New York, in 1835 to Myron Holley Clark (1806–1892) and Zilpha (née Watkins) Clark (1806–1877). She moved with her family to Canandaigua, New York, when she was about two years old.

He was a fraternal twin with Collins W. "Connie" Carpenter, later of Canandaigua, New York. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] He was a descendant of William Carpenter (1605 England - 1658/1659 Rehoboth, Massachusetts ) the founder of the Rehoboth Carpenter family who came to America in the mid-1630s.
In addition he was President of the Board of Education for the Canandaigua school district from 1887 until his death. He was a delegate to the 1888 Republican National Convention . He was elected to the 51st and 52nd United States Congresses , holding office from March 4, 1889, to March 3, 1893.
