The Britons (*Pritanī, Latin: Britanni, Welsh: Brythoniaid), also known as Celtic Britons [1] or Ancient Britons, were the indigenous Celtic people [2] who inhabited Great Britain from at least the British Iron Age until the High Middle Ages, at which point they diverged into the Welsh, Cornish, and Bretons (among others). Britton was born on the 15 of January 1859 at New Dorp, Richmond County, New York (state) to Jasper Alexander Hamilton Britton and Harriet Lord Turner. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] His parents wanted him to study religion, but he was attracted to nature study at an early age.
Ellen Alice Britton M.B.E. (17 September 1874 – 6 September 1959) was a British nursery gardener who was active as an insect collector in Argentina from circa 1899–1909, sometimes working with her brother Charles. Britton's specimens contributed to the first scientific description of several Lepidoptera species.
Britton was born in Washington D.C. on January 1, 1867. He was a son of Col. Alexander Thompson Britton (1835–1899) and Mary Crandall Wilcox (1833–1868). Among his siblings were Susan Britton (wife of Jesse Bright Ould), Mary Heins "Daisy" Britton, and Belle Britton (wife of Walter Allan Galt).
