Teletoon Retro – Teletoon Retro was the branding and block for classic animated programming. It was later spun into a digital channel, which also featured several live-action series. The channel launched on October 1, 2007, and closed on September 1, 2015.
Teletoon Retro aired programs primarily from Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation along with live action shows and Canadian-produced shows. Select programs from Cartoon Network were aired during the channel's later years. [1] [2]
The channel eventually established formal brands for such programming—The Detour on Teletoon and Teletoon Unleashed—in 2001 and 2002; by 2004, the "Unleashed" block was dropped. Teletoon at Night was similar in format to Adult Swim block of Cartoon Network , from which the block acquired most of its programming.
In 2013, the show was revived for a sixth season, premiering at an event at the Palace of Versailles. Twenty-six episodes were broadcast on French television and networks across Europe starting on 4 September 2013. [5] In Canada, the sixth season premiered on September 7, 2014 on Teletoon, and on September 6 on sister station Télétoon. [6]
In 2006, Cinar sold 10% of its stake in Teletoon to each of Astral and Corus, leading the two companies to each own 50% of Télétoon. On March 4, 2013, Corus Entertainment announced that it would acquire Astral Media's 50% ownership interest in Teletoon Canada (owner of Teletoon, Télétoon, Teletoon Retro, Télétoon Rétro and Cartoon Network).
