Pasadena (/ ˌ p æ s ə ˈ d iː n ə /) is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Harris County.It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. As of the 2020 U.S. census, the city's population was 151,950, [4] making it the 23rd most populous city in Texas and the second most populous in Harris County, after Houston.
The citizens of Pasadena may initiate ordinances to be voted on by the City Council by submitting a petition signed by qualified voters of the city. [clarification needed] Citizens also have the power to override legislation enacted by the City Council by submitting a petition of voters. Voters may recall council members or the mayor.
Refining and manufacturing grew rapidly in the area, particularly around Baytown, Pasadena, and Texas City. The opening of the Port of Texas City, and later Barbours Cut and Bayport, gradually established the region as an important shipping center. As wealth increased in southeast Texas, resorts and other tourist draws developed in the Bay Area.
The eastern portion in Pasadena's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) was eventually annexed by the city of Pasadena. [citation needed] Since 1980, part of Clear Lake City within the Houston City Limits is located in Council District E. [citation needed] From the 1980 U.S. Census to the 1990 Census, many Asian-Americans settled in Clear Lake City.
