Regiments: This page is a list of French divisions that existed during the First World War. Divisions were either infantry, colonial infantry or cavalry.
The French line infantry contained 69 regiments in 1767. The regiments had terrirorial or otherwise permanent titles. The nineteenth most senior regiments had four battalions, most regiments had two battalions while the junior regiments had one battalion. Each battalion had nine companies, eight of fusiliers and one of grenadiers.
Division had two infantry regiments, an antitank company, a tank company, a reconnaissance battalion and an artillery battalion. Instead of Norway, the division was transported via rail to Paris and then to the Somme River vicinity Noyon.
