Ubi primum (Latin for "When first" or "As soon as," the opening words of the encyclical) is an encyclical of Pope Pius IX to the bishops of the Catholic Church asking them to ascertain the opinion of their flock on the definition of a dogma on the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street, also known as Farm Street Church, is a Catholic parish church run by the Society of Jesus in Mayfair, Central London, England. [3] Its main entrance is in Farm Street, though it can also be accessed from the adjacent Mount Street Gardens.
The community was founded in 1849 by John Henry Newman as the first house of that congregation in England. Part of the complex of the Oratory is the Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception, commonly referred to as the Oratory Church. It now also serves as the national shrine to Newman. [1]
