The Punjab Archives (Punjabi pronunciation: [pə̞ɲˈdʒäːb aːɾkaːiːʋz]) is a repository of the non-current historical and cultural records of South Asia, located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It was established in 1924 under British Punjab and is currently under the jurisdiction of the Government of Punjab, Pakistan .
The History of Punjab refers to the past history of Punjab region which is a geopolitical, cultural, and historical region in the northwest of South Asia, comprising eastern Punjab province in Pakistan and western Punjab state in India. [1]
After 1947, some of the Khalsa Darbar records were shifted from Lahore to Shimla (then part of East Punjab). [4] In 1959, the records were moved to the Punjab Stale Archives in Patiala. [4] In 1984, they were moved to the Archives Cell of Ram Bagh, Amritsar. [4] The West Bengal State Archives has some Khalsa Darbar records in its collection. [10]
