Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version are 1996 role-playing video games (RPGs) developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy.They are the first installments of the Pokémon video game series, and were first released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Red [a] and Pocket Monsters Green, [b] followed by the special edition Pocket Monsters Blue [c] later that year.

The Pokémon 25th anniversary (Japanese: ポケモン 25周年, Hepburn: Pokemon 25 Shūnen), officially branded as Pokémon25, was a celebration held throughout 2021 in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, which began with the original Japanese release of Pocket Monsters Red and Green for the Game Boy on February 27, 1996.
Volume 8, the start of the Gold and Silver arc, released in 2010, and Volume 30, the start of the DP arc (known as volume 1 of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum in Viz's release) was released in 2011. However, these releases feature both visual and dialogue edits not found in the original English release and original Japanese tankobon release.
