Marriott's Grande Vista is a Marriott Vacation Club resort, on International Drive in Orlando, Florida. The timeshare resort is the largest in the Marriott Vacation Club portfolio, with 1616 guest studios, and one-, two- and three-bedroom villas in 24 Mission-style buildings.
The resort was built by US Steel in 1972 and opened in 1974. It was a popular upscale resort when it opened, and later in its life it became more of a budget resort. In December of 2002 it abruptly closed and in 2006, it was demolished to make room for the new Citymark of Orlando; this never materialized.
Resort villas are jointly owned by members who have exclusive use of the properties for limited periods of time through a points-based ownership system. Club members can also exchange their points or interval weeks for vacations at affiliated resorts worldwide, and they are eligible to become part of the Hilton Honors program.
Marriott's Orlando World Center opened on March 24, 1986. At the time it was the largest hotel in Florida, and it is now the largest Marriott in the world. [2] The 2,008-room, 28-story building contains a nine-story lobby atrium, 38,000-square-foot (3,500 m 2) and also has the largest pillar-free ballroom in the world featuring 105,000 square feet (9,800 m 2) of meeting space.
The company was also named after the founder. The company's first hotel was opened in 1984 near the entrance of Walt Disney World in Kissimmee, Florida. [1] Through the late 1990s and early 2000s the properties were slowly sold off to other hotel companies. The final Wilson World Hotel closed in Dallas, Texas in June 2003. [2]
