Oct 11, 2021. #10. I love SD and make several trips out there every year and also hunt closer to home in MN. SD is a special place with a lot of memories for many people. Certainly a lot more birds in the state and generally leads to better hunting, especially if you can get onto some lower-pressure private ground.

Active member. Jul 29, 2022. #2. The past 6-8 years - a “guarded” yes. We primarily hunt public. SD pheasant hunting has seen a big decline in CRP ground, resulting in a huge reduction in pheasants, etc. We look for “pockets” of birds, compared to birds about everywhere back in the late nineties thru 2012 or so.
So Thursday morining I left Watertown a 9:00 AM, drove west on Hwy 212 west of Redfield then south to Miller and west on 14 to Pierre. Went straight west to Sturgis. On my return trip yesterday I drove on I90 until around Mitchell. It was late afternoon so I took Hwy's 38, 34 and 81 and arrived back home in Watertown.
Member. Apr 23, 2023. #9. South Dakota "guides" are a mixed bunch at best. Over on FB @ 'Pheasant Hunting Unlimited' some outfitters are plastering picturesque images of tons of birds here in SD. Hunters draped in hauling straps full of birds. One guy is simply PIMPING his fool butt off to get people to send deposits TODAY.
