Rivas in 1980 along with seven other new Limia species (L. fuscomaculata, L. garnieri, L. immaculata, L. miragoanensis, L. pauciradiata, L. sulphurophila, and L. yaguajali) and made the type species of the newly erected subgenus Odontolimia.
