On February 23, 1989, the road was extended north 1.1 miles (1.8 km) from FM 2854 to SH 105, replacing FM 3374 and completing the loop around Conroe.

Until 2006, Cut and Shoot was considered and called a town. Then, the town council elected for it to be considered and referred to as a city. The population was 1,087 at the 2020 census. [5]
