Yarrawonga-Oaklands rail ticket 1978. The Oaklands railway line is a freight-only railway line in north-eastern Victoria, Australia.The line branches from the main North East railway at Benalla station and runs across the Victoria-New South Wales border to the town of Oaklands, New South Wales.

Yarrawonga was founded as a village in 1868, [4] [5] with a Post Office being opened on 28 November 1874, [8] and a courthouse the very same year. [7] It was connected by rail to Melbourne in 1886. [4] [7] Yarrawonga was proclaimed a shire in 1891, [4] [5] It was renamed from 'North Yarrawonga Shire' (1891) to 'Yarrawonga Shire' in 1893. [4]
Listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, it was the second bridge of its type built in Victoria, and the first metal railway bridge both designed and fabricated within the colony. [5] The Oaklands branch line to St James opened in 1883, and was extended to Yarrawonga in 1886.
The Deniliquin & Moama Railway Company was taken in 1923 at a cost of £165,000. New construction included the Balranald, Oaklands, Stony Crossing, and Lette lines.
