Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is an Indian public sector oil and gas company, headquartered in Mumbai. It is India's second-largest government-owned downstream oil producer, whose operations are overseen by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It operates three refineries in Bina, Kochi and Mumbai. [4]
The refinery commenced operation in January 1955 under the ownership of Burmah-Shell Refineries Ltd. [1] Following the Government's acquisition of the Burmah-Shell, name of the Refinery was changed to Bharat Refineries Limited on 1976. In August 1977, the company was given its permanent name, viz. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

The Mumbai Manmad Bijwasan Pipeline (MMBPL) was one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by BPCL [Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited]. [1] The project commenced in mid-1998 and involved the laying of a 252 km long petroleum product pipeline [2] from Mumbai on the Arabian sea coast to Manmad, near Nashik, located in North-Eastern Maharashtra.
It is a joint venture company promoted by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). [3]
