Ron Magers (born August 27, 1944) is a former American news anchor. Magers worked for WLS-TV , the ABC owned-and-operated station in Chicago, Illinois , where he co-anchored the top-rated 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. broadcasts with Cheryl Burton and Kathy Brock , respectively.
Ron Magers, one of the top Chicago news anchors, had been a daily commenter on the show during the 3:00 pm half-hour starting in 1997. However, in late 2009, Magers was removed from the show due to budget cutting at the station. [7] Just 7 weeks later, Magers was reinstated on the show.
On May 1, 1997, she resigned her position as 6 and 10 p.m. news anchor in protest of the station's decision to give Jerry Springer a commentary segment on the evening news program that she anchored; her co-anchor Ron Magers resigned a few weeks later for the same reason. After the two anchors left the station, ratings plummeted and Springer quit.
In 2003, she was promoted to 5 p.m. weekday co-anchor and 10 p.m. contributing anchor with Ron Magers and Kathy Brock. In addition to being on television, Burton was a cheerleader . Yu began her career at the station as a general assignment reporter and weekend co-anchor. By February 1980, Yu began working as co-anchor on the 4:30 and 10PM newscasts alongside Ron Magers. In May 1981, Yu received an Emmy award for a special newscast on the March 30, 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.
