Beulah Park opened in Grove City, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, in 1923.It was the first thoroughbred racetrack in Ohio.At its close it was one of only three tracks in Ohio to offer live thoroughbred racing, the others being Thistledown in North Randall and River Downs in Cincinnati.
In 1945, John Nuckles and Robert Roseberry purchased 50 acres (200,000 m 2) of land for site of the future race track. The track opened in 1946 as a dirt track for motorcycles. In 1950 the track was given lighting and in 1957, the track was paved for the first time as car racing, specifically stock car racing, became more popular.
Mahoning Valley Race Course opened on September 17, 2014. [1] The facility features a one-mile dirt course with grandstand, and a gaming area that displays nearly 1,000 video lottery terminals. The track replaces Beulah Park Racetrack in Columbus, Ohio. Racing operations at Mahoning Valley began on November 24, 2014. [2]
