Founded in 1947, it was the first and largest trade union confederation in country. The NTUC is politically linked with the Nepali Congress (NC). In 2008, the NTUC and the Democratic Confederation of Nepalese Trade Unions (DECONT) merged to form the NTUC-Independent (DECONT had split from the NTUC in 1997).
Members can participate in the running of the credit union. Members elect the directors, vote on share dividend and can become actively involved as volunteers. The NY&NE had been double-tracked from Winslow to Walpole in 1881, and on to Franklin in 1882.
