Rowan County (/ r oʊ ˈ æ n / roh-AN) [1] [2] is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina that was formed in 1753, as part of the British Province of North Carolina.It was originally a vast territory with unlimited western boundaries, but its size was reduced to 524 square miles (1,360 km 2) after several counties were formed from Rowan County in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Adlai Osborne compiled this Tax List of Rowan County land owners to raise money for the upcoming Revolutionary War, including Capt Caldwell's, Capt Nichols', Capt Falls', and Capt Purviance's Districts that would become part of Iredell County in 1788. John Campbell served with Captain Nichols in the Rowan County Regiment. [19]

Cleveland Township is one of fourteen non-functioning county subdivisions in Rowan County, North Carolina that were established in 1868. The township had a population of 2,817 according to the 2010 census. [1] [2] The only incorporated municipality in Cleveland Township is the town of Cleveland. [3]
