Wilton (formerly Wilton Junction) is a city in Cedar and Muscatine counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 2,924 at the time of the 2020 census . [ 3 ] The Muscatine County portion of Wilton is part of the Muscatine Micropolitan Statistical Area .
Muscatine County became part of Iowa Territory on July 4, 1838, when it was established by partitioning the area from Wisconsin Territory. [3] The first public land sale was held in November 1838. One year later, officials began construction of the first courthouse and associated jail.
The Muscatine Micropolitan Statistical Area is also a part of the Quad Cities Iowa–Illinois Combined Statistical Area (CSA), which has a population of 474,226, making it the 90th-largest CSA in the nation. [1] [2] As of the 2000 census, the area had a population of 53,905 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 54,179). [3]
The Sinnett Octagon House built in 1855 is a historic octagonal house in Muscatine, Iowa. The two-story brick home with wrap-around porch and windowed cupola is now used as an office building. [2] On July 18, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
