The Adair County Courthouse is located in Stilwell, Oklahoma and is the central building for the county government for Adair County, Oklahoma. The current building is the fourth building in Stilwell to serve as the courthouse. From 1902 until 1908 a two-story wood-frame schoolhouse served as the courthouse.
Adair County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,495. [1] Its county seat is Stilwell. [2] Adair County was named after the Adair family of the Cherokee tribe. [3] One source says that the county was specifically named for Watt Adair, one of the first Cherokees to settle in the area. [4]
In 1902 a second rail line, the Ozark and Cherokee Central Railway, [6] which ran from Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, began operations through Westville, giving the town an enviable position at the rail junction. That line, later owned by St. Louis – San Francisco Railway, discontinued service to Westville in the late 1940s. [5]

Adair Park, formerly named Adair State Park, is located in the city of Stilwell, Oklahoma in Adair County, Oklahoma., adjacent to the Adair County fairgrounds.The 25-acre (100,000 m 2) park offers 7 RV campsites and 20 primitive campsites, as well as a fishing pond, playground, comfort station with showers, covered shelters and picnic facilities.
Elm Grove is located along Oklahoma State Highway 100.It is 4 miles (6 km) east of Stilwell, the county seat, and 3 miles (5 km) west of the Arkansas border.. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.3 km 2), of which 0.0039 square miles (0.01 km 2), or 0.25%, is water.
The Cookson Hills are in eastern Oklahoma. They are an extension of the Boston Mountains of Arkansas to the east and the southwestern margin of the Ozark Plateau. They lie generally between Stilwell, Sallisaw and Tahlequah. The area became part of the Cherokee Nation in the early 20th century until 1907, when Oklahoma became a state. [1]
