The Pipestone River Provincial Park is a provincial park in northern Ontario, Canada, [1] roughly 200 kilometres (120 mi) north of Sioux Lookout. [2] It is a non-contiguous linear waterway park that consists of 3 segments, protecting 316-kilometre-long (196 mi) portions of the Pipestone, Morris, Williams, and Otoskwin Rivers.
The Frog Rapids are just upstream of where the Pipestone River flows into Horseshoe Lake The 2 km (1.2 mi) Frog Portage, whose upstream endpoint is located about 7.8 km (4.8 mi) by water above the rapids on Kecheokagan Lake , allows canoeists to bypass the rapids.
It flows west from its headwaters in Red Lake in northwest Ontario to the east side of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba through the boreal forests of the Canadian Shield. It is around 300 kilometres (190 mi) long. Lakes along its length include Knox Lake, Pipestone Lake and Artery Lake.

The Nelson River flows into Playgreen Lake from Lake Winnipeg then flows from two channels into Cross Lake. The east channel and the Jack River flow from the southeast portion of the lake into Little Playgreen Lake then the Nelson east channel continues in a northerly direction passing through Pipestone Lake on its way to Cross Lake.
