Huehuetla is one of the 84 municipalities of Hidalgo, in central-eastern Mexico. The municipality covers an area of 262.1 km². In 2005, the municipality had a total population of 22,927. [1] In 2017 there were 13,012 inhabitants who spoke an indigenous language, [2] primarily Sierra Otomi and Tepehua. [3]
The largest municipality by area in Hidalgo is Zimapán, which spans 824.20 km 2 (318.23 sq mi), while Tlahuelilpan is the smallest at 28.20 km 2 (10.89 sq mi). [2] The first municipality to incorporate was Huichapan on March 11, 1824, and the newest municipality is Progreso de Obregón which incorporated January 8, 1970. [6]
Huehuetla is located in northern Puebla on its border with Veracruz. The southern exclave of San Juan Ocelonacaxtla is separated from the rest of the municipality by Caxhuacan and Ixtepec. Huejutla de Reyes is a city and one of the 84 municipalities of Hidalgo, in central-eastern Mexico. The name comes from the Nahuatl huexotl ("willow") and tlan ("place"), [ 1 ] while "de Reyes" commemorates local cobbler Antonio Reyes Cabrera who died defending Huejutla from French invaders in 1866.
