Albert Cashier (1843–1915) was Irish-born and served three years in the Union Army as a male soldier. Cashier lived the next fifty years as a man. Cashier's regiment was part of the Army of the Tennessee under Ulysses S. Grant and fought in approximately forty battles, [8] including the Siege of Vicksburg. [9]

They formed the folk rock duo the Civil Wars in 2009 and released their breakthrough album, Barton Hollow, in 2011. The album was widely praised by critics [ 10 ] and went on to sell more than 650,000 copies in the U.S. [ 11 ] White and Williams won four Grammy Awards as the Civil Wars.
John Paul White (born August 4, 1972) is an American musician and former member of the Grammy Award-winning duo the Civil Wars. [1] He restarted his solo career with his 2016 release, Beulah . [ 2 ]
