The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), Steven Drozd (guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals), Derek Brown (keyboards, guitars, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (drums, percussion, keyboards) and Tommy McKenzie (bass).
Coyne and the Flaming Lips appeared in season 6, episode 1 ("Pickathon") of the series "Portlandia", which centered around a large, outdoor music festival. In 2022, Coyne co-directed a documentary about the band's 2021 COVID-19-era concerts featuring the bands and audience encased in 'space bubbles' entitled The Flaming Lips Space Bubble Film.

Michael Lee Ivins (born March 17, 1963) is the former bassist, keyboardist, backing vocalist and founding member of The Flaming Lips. [1]Along with Mark Coyne and Wayne Coyne, he formed The Flaming Lips in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Drozd joined the Flaming Lips in 1991 as a drummer. While his style is influenced by the drum sounds of the 1970s, his time spent with his father's polka band helped him develop a sense of delicacy and syncopation. [3] His thick grooves, with episodes of odd-time funk, are interspersed with straight-ahead rock, mixing various genres.
