West Edmonton Mall (WEM) is a large shopping mall in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that is owned, managed, and operated by Triple Five Group.It is the second most visited mall in Canada, [6] after the Toronto Eaton Centre in Toronto, followed by Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby, [7] and the 14th largest in the world (along with Dubai Mall) by gross leasable area. In May 2024, Westmount Centre gave 30-day end of tendency notices to stores located on one side of the hallway between Safeway and Smitty’s in the southeast portion of the mall. No official explanation was given but several tenants believed that recent leaks from the roof above the abandoned theatre complex on the second floor was the cause.

Beginning in 1981, La Maison Simons began an expansion across Quebec. In 2012, the company expanded its business to the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta first, before opening several more stores across Canada. The success of the location at the West Edmonton Mall led to the company being sought out as a key anchor tenant at malls across Canada.
These expansions brought the West Edmonton Mall from the largest in Canada to the largest in the world. [12] In addition to building the West Edmonton Mall, Triple Five also developed the Eaton's Centre mall and mixed-use development in downtown Edmonton, which began development in 1980 [13] and opened in 1986.
