Just run the optifine .jar file, ypu don't need to copy it to the mods folder, then run minecraft forge again. If this doesn't work, just run forge without optifine as they can interfere with each-other and break. when you download optifine, dont forget to open the jar and click extract, then put the optifine 1.12_MOD.jar in your mods folder.
Yes. Optifine is cool where the .jar that is downloaded so that you can double click to install or just throw it in the mods folder. In the download section of optifine make sure it's a 1.8.9 version but the one you get shouldn't matter. I'd recommend the most recent version of 1.8.9 since that's the one with the least issues.
So I am trying to get a shaderpack and the directions are telling me to go to %appdata&\.minecraft , which idk how to do, and search for the shaderpacks folder, and place the .zip in that folder. So i open files and try searching for shaderpacks and nothing shows up. What do i do.

Don’t add optifine directly to the modpack, when you go into the launcher go to installations and open the folder for the installation and click on mods and put optifine in their and voila it works!
