Kern Transit, formerly Kern Regional Transit, is the operator of mass transportation in Kern County, California. Primarily, it provides inter-regional transportation, connecting outlying regions with the city of Bakersfield (and with each other with a transfer in Bakersfield).

Note: The Mojave Freeway (State Route 58) should not be confused with Interstate 15. In Kern County, The Mojave Freeway name is used by local authorities and Caltrans to refer to SR 58 between Bakersfield and Barstow. [6] The California Legislator gave the same name to the Barstow Freeway (I-15) between San Bernardino and the Nevada state line. [7]

This route operates almost like the old service Route 16, it runs from Downtown Bakersfield to Tejon Ranch/IKEA, then comes back and ends service until 5:00PM at the Downtown Transit Center(Bakersfield). This route now parks in Bay F, in the Downtown Transit Center.
Route 1 begins at city hall then winds through the city center, toward Mountain Meadows Plaza in the south, before ending at Villa del Arroyo in the northeastern part of town. Route 2 also begins at city hall and ends just north of Route 1's terminus at Moorpark College, traveling through a more centralized path than its counterpart.
