Iqra University, (Urdu: دانش گاہِ اقراَ) is a Private University primarily with its main campus located in the Defence View area of Karachi, Pakistan. [1] It has additional campuses in other parts of the city, in Islamabad and Peshawar .

Higher education in Pakistan is the systematic process of students continuing their education beyond secondary school, learned societies and two-year colleges.The governance of higher education is maintained under the Higher Education Commission (Pakistan) (HEC) which oversees the financial funding, research outputs and teaching quality in the country. Up to date, the HEC has published rankings for the years 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014 and most recently 2015. [2] In addition to the top ten and general rankings, independent rankings are also provided for universities and institutes in the categories of agriculture and veterinary science; arts and design; business; engineering and technology; and medicine. The university is a centre of Islam, theology and the Islamic studies in a contemporary context. [6] [7] The university was founded in 1980 with funding from inside Pakistan and foreign donations from Saudi Arabia. [8] [9] Ismail al-Faruqi, a prominent scholar, played a significant role in its establishment.
