The station's news operation used a variety of branding over the years; it was known as VU13 News in the 1980s, and as U News for most of the 1990s (during this period, CKVU ran hourly news updates, using the 24-Hour News Source format then-popular in the United States). With the 1997 rebrand to Global, this meant U News became Global News.
