The South Bank Parklands, which were established on the former site of World Expo 88, are one of Brisbane's most popular tourist attractions.The parklands are home to many restaurants and cafés as well as landmarks such as the Queensland Conservatorium, the Wheel of Brisbane, the Nepalese Peace Pagoda, Streets Beach (a free human-made swimming area), and the Grand Arbour.
The platforms are accessible from the pedestrian bridge linking the Queensland Performing Arts Centre to the Queensland Museum and Queensland Art Gallery. The station is also close to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, South Bank Piazza and the western end of the South Bank Parklands.

Although the Convention Centre was the Bullets' home venue at the time, for the 2007 NBL Grand Final series against the Melbourne Tigers, they moved back to the larger capacity Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
