Banepa is a major trade route to Tibet, with the Arniko Rajmarg, the only highway that connects Nepal and China (Tibet), running through this town. Furthermore, B.P. Koirala Highway also passes through Banepa. Though it is a small town, but it is well devolved and Banepa is the major economic center east of Kathmandu. [citation needed]
A municipality in Nepal is a sub-unit of a district. The Government of Nepal has set-out a minimum criteria for municipalities. These criteria include a certain population, infrastructure and revenues. Presently, there are 293 municipalities in Nepal among which 6 are metropolis, 11 are sub-metropolis and 276 are municipal councils.
The Information Technology Park (commonly known as Info Tech Park or IT Park), Nepal's only Information Technology Park, [1] [2] is situated between Banepa and Panauti of Kavrepalanchowk District, Nepal, [3] although it comes under Panauti Municipality. It lies about 28 kilometres (17 mi) northeast of the capital city Kathmandu. [4]
The construction of Banepa Sindhuli Bardibas Road started in November 1996 with a grant assistance of Government of Japan. The highway was handed over by Japanese ambassador to Nepal Mr. Masashi Ogawa to the then Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. Sushil Koirala. Koirala inaugurated the highway during a ceremony held at Dhulikhel, Kavre. [3]
Along Arniko Highway 5 kilometers before Dhulikhel is the town of Banepa, Nepal. One of the attractions of Banepa is the temple of Chandeshwori, located approximately 1 kilometer northeast of the town along the Punya mata River next to Ghokechaur having a length of 0.21 kilometres. [2] It is believed to have been built in the 17th century.
Banepa, however, was soon annexed by or submitted itself to Bhaktapur. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In 1769, It became part of the Gorkha Kingdom ―present day Kingdom of Nepal ―after an aggressive unification campaign launched by Prithvi Narayan Shah .

Tamang language is spoken by 18.16% and Nepal Bhasa is spoken by 12.23% of the population as their mother tongue. Magar (1.79%).,Gurung (0.92%) and Chepang (0.83%) are other languages spoken in the province. [13] The Language Commission of Nepal has recommended Nepal Bhasa and Tamang as official language in the province. [14]
