Goku returns for a rematch, but is swiftly defeated. This causes Goku to transform into a Golden Great Ape and then into a Super Saiyan 4. Baby then has Bulma, also under his control, fire a radiation beam at him from her Blutz Wave Generator which enables him to transform into a Golden Great Ape as well.
Cumber then creates an artificial moon and uses it to transform into a Golden Great Ape. In this transformation, Cumber attacks Vegito, who defuses back into Goku and Vegeta after using up too much energy. Goku and Vegeta then prepare to battle Cumber one last time.
Goku, now a wild Great Ape, begins demolishing Pilaf's castle. Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar are able to escape. Pilaf, Mai, and Shu board an airplane and start attacking Goku. They are able to bring him down temporarily, but Goku recovers and destroys their plane. He then picks up Bulma and prepares to eat her.
After testing Goku's new transformation, which Goku explains is a Super Saiyan equivalent to a Super Saiyan God, Frieza unveils his new Golden Frieza form. After expressing how impressed they are by each other's progress, Goku and Frieza engage in a fierce battle.
But Goku looked at the Moon and transformed into a Great Ape, smashing the wall and releasing the gang. The rampaging Goku then chases the gang, picking up Launch and attempting to devour her. Yamcha and Krillin grabbed hold of Goku's tail, weakening the Great Ape and allowing Puar to shape-shift into a pair of scissors and cut it off.

Goku fights Frieza first and quickly gains the advantage but the latter deduces that he is holding back, so the two foes agree to fight at full power. Goku transforms into a new godly Super Saiyan form with a glowing blue hair and aura (later dubbed Super Saiyan Blue) and Frieza assumes his new gold-plated form, which he dubs Golden Frieza.
