Rio Nido, California (From Spanish: Río Nido, meaning Nest River) is a small, unincorporated resort community on the Russian River, in Sonoma County, California, United States. It is situated 1.3 mi (2.1 km) east of Guerneville. The town's name is meant to mean "river nest" in Spanish.

Russian River SMRMA and Russian River SMCA are two adjoining marine protected areas that protect the Russian River Estuary in Sonoma County on California's north central coast. The Russian River flows through Goat Rock Beach within Sonoma Coast State Beach into the Pacific Ocean. The estuary is closed seasonally by a sandbar.

Jenner Headlands Preserve is a nature preserve owned and managed by The Wildlands Conservancy, a nonprofit land conservancy.Covering 5,630 acres (22.8 km 2) in Sonoma County, California, the preserve offers views of the Russian River and the coastline.
Guerneville is located in western Sonoma County, along the Russian River on State Route 116, between Monte Rio to the west and Forestville to the east. The CDP has a total area of 9.88 sq mi (25.6 km 2). Of that, 9.71 sq mi (25.1 km 2) is land and 0.17 sq mi (0.4 km 2) (1.72%) is water. [1]
It is located west of Santa Rosa on the Russian River. First settled in 1871, it was served by the Northwestern Pacific Railroad from 1876 to 1935. Hacienda was a popular river resort from the 1920s through the 1950s, with river frontage, campgrounds, and a golf course designed by Alistair MacKenzie. [1] Today, the site is a private community.
