This is a list of U.S. state and local law enforcement agencies — local, regional, special and statewide government agencies (state police) of the U.S. states, of the federal district, and of the territories that provide law enforcement duties, including investigations, prevention and patrol functions.
Most state governments traditionally use the department as the standard highest-level component of the executive branch, in that the secretary of a department is normally considered to be a member of the Governor's cabinet and serves as the main interface between the Governor and all agencies in his or her assigned portfolio.
These agencies are typically within each state's Executive Branch, and have the purpose of protecting a state's fish and wildlife resources. The exact duties of each agency vary by state, [2] but often include resource management and research, regulation setting, and enforcement of law related to fisheries and wildlife.
