The corporate history of Goulds Pumps began in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848, when Seabury S. Gould purchased the interests of Edward Mynderse and H.C. Silsby in Downs, Mynderse & Co., a pump making business which had started up in 1840. The company, known as Downs & Company until 1869, cast and assembled the world's first all-metal pump in 1849.

The company's long-standing brands include Goulds Pumps, Cannon connectors, KONI shock absorbers and Enidine energy absorption components. [4] The company was founded in 1920 as International Telephone & Telegraph.
The Goulds Pumps/ITT Industries 200 was a NASCAR Busch Series race held at Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Originally a 300 lap race, it was added to the Busch Series schedule in 1988 and last run in 2004 , after the owners, International Speedway Corporation , closed the facility.

BIW designed and manufactured the first power feedthru connectors for electric submersible pumps used in artificial lifts for oil wells, and the company developed the first field attachable connectors for electric submersible pump power cables.
