The 223rd was federally activated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 24 September 1957 to assist in the Little Rock Integration Crisis. During this time, a new building was under construction; the same building they would call home until the unit's closure in 2006. By 1960, the 223rd had gained recognition as a premier Radio Relay Squadron.
The 327th was reactivated at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas on 13 July 2014, [1] operating C-130H2 Hercules aircraft. In 2016, the squadron converted to a classic associate unit, operating the C-130J Super Hercules, and associated with the active duty 19th Airlift Wing.
The unit was reactivated as the 913th Airlift Group at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas and an activation ceremony was held on 13 July 2014. The group replaced Detachment 1, Twenty-Second Air Force, which had been established at Little Rock in March 2011. The 913th Airlift Group is the first C-130 classic associate unit in the U.S. Air Force.
