In the early 1900s, there were 328 plantations identified in North Carolina from extant records. [ 10 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] The Sloop Point plantation in Pender County, built in 1729, is the oldest surviving plantation house and the second oldest house surviving in North Carolina, after the Lane House (built in 1718–1719 and not part of a plantation).

The inhabitants of the area that became Union Grove in the early 1800s and Union Grove Township in 1868 were farmers and some also ran mills. By 1850, some farms grew larger, as evidenced by the number of slaves and size of the families. In 1850, Perciphull Campbell owned 21 slaves. In 1860, Hosea Redman on Rocky Creek owned 30 slaves.
NC 115 was established between 1929 and 1930 by the North Carolina State Highway Commission. [3] [4] It first appeared on official North Carolina state highway maps in 1930. [4] At the time of establishment, the southern terminus of NC 115 was located at US 21, US 70, NC 10, NC 26, and NC 90 in Statesville. [5]
