The history of Liverpool can be traced back to 1190 when the place was known as 'Liuerpul', possibly meaning a pool or creek with muddy water, though other origins of the name have been suggested. The borough was founded by royal charter in 1207 by King John , made up of only seven streets in the shape of the letter 'H'.

Cartographically Bacon derived this map from the Ordinance Survey with embellishments including quarter mile grid and square segmentation, beautiful hand tinting, and a focus on the identification of docks, rail stations, churches, municipal buildings, parks, and other important buildings.
Dating back to the 1860s, the street's offices and commercial buildings meant that it played a key part during the growth of Liverpool. [1] During the 19th century, the street became home to fruit and produce dealers, warehouses, offices and banks, aided by its proximity to the docks and Liverpool Exchange railway station .
Liverpool's place as the second most filmed city in the UK has led to Water Street being used in many film and TV productions. [8] Water Street has featured in such films as Florence Foster Jenkins, Fast and Furious 6, The 51st State and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
