Douglas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2020 United States Census , the population was 19,740. [ 2 ] The county seat is Tuscola .
The Douglas County Courthouse is a government building in Tuscola, the county seat of Douglas County, Illinois, United States. Completed in 1913, it is the third courthouse in the history of Douglas County. Douglas County's first pioneers arrived in 1829, although occasional squatters had been present beforehand.
The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA) was created by State law in July 1985. What was the agency's oldest bureau, the Illinois State Historical Library, was created in 1889, but the origins of the agency could be said to date back to the state's involvement in building and caring for the Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois, in 1865.
As of the 2020 census [2] there were 5,460 people, 2,297 households, and 1,320 families residing in the township. The population density was 87.23 inhabitants per square mile (33.68/km 2).
