Banneker High School (also known as Benjamin Banneker High School) is a public high school in Union City, Georgia, United States, [2] with a College Park, Georgia postal address. It is part of the Fulton County School System [ 3 ] and named for Benjamin Banneker , a free African-American almanac author, surveyor, landowner and farmer.
Benjamin Banneker (November 9, 1731 – October 19, 1806) was an American naturalist, mathematician, astronomer and almanac author. A landowner, he also worked as a surveyor and farmer.
Benjamin Banneker School was a segregated school for Bloomington's African American residents from 1915 to 1951. When the school desegregated , its name was changed to Fairview Annex. In 1955, the school's building became the Westside Community Center.
