Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel (Hebrew for: "People of Peace" followed by "Children of Israel") is a Modern Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue located at 540 West Melrose Street, in the Lakeview neighborhood on the north side of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States.
It is the oldest Florida synagogue building still standing. [5] It is now the Ocala Bible Chapel, a Christian congregation. First Congregation Sons of Israel is the oldest synagogue in “The Nation's Oldest City”, St. Augustine, Florida. The congregation was chartered in 1908. The current synagogue building was dedicated in 1923.
Chicago's first synagogue, Kehilath Anshe Mayriv (KAM), was established in 1847 at the intersection of Lake and Wells in The Loop by German Jewish immigrants. In 1852, a group of 20 Polish Jews, dissatisfied with KAM's practices, founded Kehilath B'nai Sholom, a congregation with a more Orthodox orientation.
