The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is a public academic health science center in Houston, Texas, United States. It was created in 1972 by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. It is located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. [3]
The campus houses four institutes: the Heart & Vascular Institute, the Mischer Neuroscience Institute, the Texas Trauma Institute and the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute. It is the only hospital in Houston with Burn Center Verification by the American Burn Association .
It was established in 1974 at University of Houston–Clear Lake. In the early 1980s, Dr. Peter Bishop joined the faculty and became director of the program. By 2005, Dr. Andy Hines had joined the program and is the current director. In 2007, the program moved to the University of Houston main campus. [4]
