The University of Houston (/ ˈ h juː s t ən / ⓘ; HEW-stən) is a public research university in Houston, Texas, United States.It was established in 1927 as Houston Junior College, a coeducational institution and one of multiple junior colleges formed in the first decades of the 20th century.
The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston [7] was established by Texas House Bill 500 on June 11, 1963, and activated by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas on September 28, 1963. [8]
In 1969, the University of Texas Medical School at Houston was simultaneously authorized with the Texas Tech University School of Medicine by the Texas Legislature [3] to address the projected state and national shortages of physicians. [1] In 1972, the school joins the newly formed University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
