The squadron was activated at Kelly Field, Texas, on 20 August 1917 as the 94th Aero Squadron. On 8 April 1924, the unit was consolidated with the 103d Aero Squadron which was organized on 31 August 1917.
The 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, designed to look like a World War I-era French farmhouse, closed in June and was razed in December.
