U.S. Route 31 (US 31) is a part of the United States Numbered Highway System that runs from Spanish Fort, Alabama, to Mackinaw City, Michigan. It enters the U.S. state of Indiana via the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge between Louisville, Kentucky , and Clarksville, Indiana .
In 2014 the segment of US 31 freeway from US 30 near Plymouth to US 20 (St. Joseph Valley Parkway) in South Bend opened, and the segment of what had been US 31 in St. Joseph County outside of South Bend became SR 931. The first section of the highway, started in 1958 as Bypass US 20 (BYP US 20), was completed between US 20 and Mayflower Road (at the time State Road 123) on September 19, 1963.
