The Misfits is a 1961 American contemporary Western film directed by John Huston and written by Arthur Miller, who adapted his own 1957 short story. It stars Clark Gable , Marilyn Monroe , and Montgomery Clift , alongside Thelma Ritter and Eli Wallach .

However the first film Huston made for Seven Arts was The Misfits (1961) for United Artists. In September 1960 Seven Arts announced it would invest $17,500,000 in thirteen to fifteen films budgeted at $30 million. These included The Mistfits, West Side Story, Two for the Seesaw, and By Love Possessed for UA.
