The 4L60E (and similar 4L65E) is a series of automatic transmissions from General Motors. Designed for longitudinal engine configurations, the series includes 4 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. The 4L60E is the electronically commanded evolution of the Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4 , originally produced in 1982.
For 1991 GM introduced the 4T60-E which was a 4T60 with electronic controls, first seen on the new Buick Park Avenue. One benefit was that the cruise control was integrated into the gearbox' electronic control module, improving the ability to maintain a set speed while avoiding needless shifting, thus lowering fuel consumption and noise levels. [1]
The 4L60E is not easily swapped with the 4L60, as the 4L60E depends on a powertrain control module (PCM) to shift. [2] The 4L60E went into service in trucks, vans, and SUVs in 1993 and in all RWD passenger cars (Corvette, F and B/D bodies) in 1994. In 2001, an updated version — the 4L65-E, was introduced.
Basically there are two types of motor vehicle transmissions: Manual – the driver has to perform each gear change using a manually operated clutch Automatic – once placed in drive (or any other 'automatic' selector position), it automatically selects the gear ratio dependent on engine speed and load
"I feel like they should get a cat, I have a feeling a cat would break this up after about three passes," wrote one person. "Lab just needs to slide her leg out a little further," someone else teased.
This family is snake-charmed. A Florida man has transformed his garage into a haven for hundreds of exotic reptiles — and even lets his young kids cuddle with the slithery serpents in bed.
