The CB postcode area, also known as the Cambridge postcode area, [2] is a group of sixteen postcode districts in the east of England, within five post towns.These cover much of south and east Cambridgeshire (including Cambridge and Ely), plus parts of west Suffolk (including Newmarket and Haverhill) and north-west Essex (including Saffron Walden), and a very small part of Norfolk.

In the "Matthew Bartholomew" series of novels by Susanna Gregory, Trumpington is the location of the Manor House belonging to Matthew's sister and husband. Trumpington residents are referred to in Rupert Brooke 's poem The Old Vicarage, Grantchester , written in 1912 - "...they fling oaths at one, / And worse than oaths at Trumpington."
A plaque on the outside of the building marks this as the location from which Guglielmo Marconi made the first public transmission of wireless signals, in 1897 while it was the Central Telegraph Office building of the General Post Office complex.
