It operates a multinational shoe store chain that is a mixture of company owned stores and franchises, as well as a retail website. It is headquartered in Street, Somerset. It was founded in 1825-1828 by brothers Cyrus and James Clark.
Clark was born in Street, Somerset into the sixth generation of the Clarks shoemaking family. [2]He was educated at Leighton Park School and New College, Oxford.While working in the family business, he was managing director of Clarks UK, prior to the business being placed under non-family management. In the 19th century Cyrus Clark started a business in sheepskin rugs, later joined by his brother James, who introduced the production of woollen slippers, and later, boots and shoes. [1] However, shoes are no longer manufactured there. Clarks Village opened on 14 August 1993 and gained over two million visitors in its first year.
